Ireland's Bumblee's

Bilberry Bumblebee

A rare bumblebee species that inhabits the uplands.
They can be found on blanket bog and like to feed on heather and bilberry.

On the Island of Ireland we have 21 bumblebee species, all distinct and all under threat from a decline in habitat and feed sources. Each bumble is unique in its behaviour and feeding habits and this can be seen in their different sizes, shapes and facial structures.
A bumblebee isn't 'just' a bumblebee. They are individuals that play an important role in nature.

Handembroidered bee with 3D wings on cotton/linen blend. Mounted onto a frame measuring 16.5cm by 16.5cm.
