Ireland's Bumblee's
Buff-tailed Bumblebee
The largest of the bumblebee species. They have a buff coloured bum and are known for their nectar robbing where they bite small holes into flowers to steal nectar at the source.
On the Island of Ireland we have 21 bumblebee species, all distinct and all under threat from a decline in habitat and feed sources. Each bumble is unique in its behaviour and feeding habits and this can be seen in their different sizes, shapes and facial structures.
A bumblebee isn't 'just' a bumblebee. They are individuals that play an important role in nature.
