Ireland's Bumblee's
Southern Cuckoo Bumblebee
A rare cuckoo species across Ireland. It is a parasitic bee species that will use the nests of buff tailed bumbles.
On the Island of Ireland we have 21 bumblebee species, all distinct and all under threat from a decline in habitat and feed sources. Each bumble is unique in its behaviour and feeding habits and this can be seen in their different sizes, shapes and facial structures.
A bumblebee isn't 'just' a bumblebee. They are individuals that play an important role in nature.
