Threads of Restoration
I always say that the magic of embroidery is in it's slowness, and now I find that true for peatlands too.
Nine months ago I entered the world of Northern Ireland's Peatlands. I saw first hand some of our most damaged landscapes, but I also saw the incredible results of restoration. A healthy peatland is like a secret world, hiding amongst the heather and the moss are incredible sundews or nesting curlews. Whilst further below the surface the magic of the accumulated peat slows the flow of water which is the key to environmental health.
To celebrate the wonder of peatland and the people that work on them I've created the threads of restoration project.

What is it?
Threads of Restoration is a community project bringing together the hundreds- if not thousands of people that are involved in the restoration and conservation of our precious landscapes. This 6ft tapestry begins as a blank canvas- a cut over peatland, but together one stitch at a time we will restore the peatland.
Come and stitch a thread or two with me at the Peatland IUCN conference, 2025.
